Electrolux Repays Survival with BastDate: 17 June 2003
The four unions representing the 1,200 workers at the Electrolux Plant in Orange will launch an industrial campaign tomorrow calling on the multi-national white-goods manufacturer to end its radical anti-worker campaign. The push to expel unions from Electrolux is being orchestrated by the Australian Industry Group to trick the workforce into signing inferior non-union enterprise agreements. Electrolux's campaign comes just three years after thousands of unionists from across NSW rallied in the largest demonstration that has ever been seen in the Central West to keep the plant open, which is Orange's largest employer. The unions also successfully lobbied the NSW Government to provide vital funding to keep the plant open. Electrolux is planning to hold a ballot of employees next week to divide the workforce over the negotiations for a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. The unions are calling for all employees to remain united and not fall into the trap being laid by management. The four unions being The Australian Workers' Union, the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, the National Union of Workers and the Electrical Trades Union will also release the results of a survey of the workforce indicating their attitudes towards company management at the Press Conference tomorrow. A Press Conference will take place tomorrow with representatives of the unions and the workforce: When: Wednesday, 18 June 2003
