Quality Pay for child care workers

Date: 06 November 2003

The vital voice of childcare workers from across NSW needs to be heard participating loud and clear in the growing debate about the future of this crucial work.

The LHMU Child Care Union will be holding their 2003 conference in November on the theme Quality Care - Quality Pay .

" The importance of early childhood education is agreed throughout the community as being vital for a child's lifetime development.

Childcare workers vital role must be recognised

" As a childcare worker you play a significant and vital role which should not be under-estimated," Sonia Minutillo, NSW LHMU Child Care Union Executive Vice President said.

" It is time that your contribution is recognised through fair and decent wages.

" It is time that there is some acknowledgement of your skills, training, experience and responsibilities as childcare workers. The recognition of your contribution to the community is overdue."

Conference sets platform for pay equity campaign

This year the LHMU Child Care Union is holding the Quality Care - Quality Pay conference on Saturday November 22, from 9.30am to 4pm in The Auditorium, 187 Thomas St Haymarket.

This conference aims to prepare the way forward to achieve fair wages. Following the conference your union is planning to lodge an application with the NSW Industrial Relations Commission to begin your pay equity campaign.

Members and non members working as child care workers are welcome to attend.

Tell everyone about the conference - places filling fast

Tell everyone in your centre about this conference and come along as a group - the more participation we get in this campaign, the bigger our voice will grow and the better will be our chances of winning real change in this important industry.

But places are filling up fast so act quickly.

A small fee is payable. For further details please contact the LHMU Child Care Union on 8204 7204 or send an e-mail to: peterc@lhmu.org.au

Closing date to register is the 17th November.
