Telstra-More jobs to go to IndiaDate: 14 January 2004
TELSTRA-Good corporate citizens-I'd like to see that as the company again puts profits before people and sends more jobs offshore. Telstra and IBM have finally come clean and admitted to plans to outsource at least 450 high tech IT jobs to India. Despite constant questioning, demonstrations and public pressure on the companies by the Communications Union (CEPU) over many months, up until now the companies have denied any plans to outsource Australian jobs on anything like this scale. The greedy, selfish agenda of the companies is now exposed. Rather than employ and continue to employ highly skilled Australians these highly profitable international corporations wish to drive their profits even higher at the expense of the Australian community and Australian jobs. Third world wages and third world conditions are totally unacceptable and the Australian community should be outraged over this selfish, greedy corporate behaviour says Len Cooper, Secretary of the Communications Union. The CEPU will continue its public demonstration on the issue and will continue to mobilise public opinion on the issue in this Federal election year. Any incoming government must act to protect Australian high tech jobs added Len Cooper.
