Kodak workers discuss jobs crisisDate: 23 January 2004
LHMU union members employed by Kodak in Australia will put the best possible case to keep our jobs alive, LHMU Victorian Branch Secretary, Brian Daley, said today. " In Victoria the union has already met this morning with the State Manufacturing Minister, Tim Holding, to set up a working group to build the case for keeping the production jobs at Kodak's main facility in Coburg." The global photography giant has announced overnight ey that Kodak plans to cut 15,000 jobs worldwide over the next three years. " The LHMU is optimistic about our ability to put the best case for maintaining jobs in Australia. " We hope that the Federal Government will work co-operatively with the State Government to keep the jobs in Melbourne," Brian Daley said. " LHMU union delegates will meet this morning at the Coburg facility - where 250 people are employed - and hold talks with members about how we can create new opportunities to secure these jobs. " The State Minister will bring together all parties to discuss suggestions about how we can maintain production in Australia - in the face of the rising Australian dollar and cheap production facilities in China." The Victorian facility is the largest Kodak site in Australia. The LHMU also represents Kodak workers in other states where the same issues will be faced.
