'Mansfied departure from Telstra.'

Date: 15 April 2004

'Mansfield departure from Telstra is long overdue.'

The resignation of Telstra Chairman Bob Mansfield is long overdue. CEO Ziggy Switkowski should follow him as soon as possible.

Under their leadership Telstra has:

*written off billions on failed overseas ventures
*played party politics by campaigning for the sale of Telstra on behalf of the Liberal Party
*laid off over 55'000 Telstra staff thus paralysing any possibility of superior service to the Australian people
*driven staff morale down to rock bottom with a mindless, ideological management style and behaviour.

How have they hung on to their jobs so long? asks Len Cooper Secretary of the Communications Union (CEPU).

Whether the current remaining board has what it takes to reform remains to be seen, but don't hold your breath says Len Cooper.
