Cleaners on Bob Carr's doorstepDate: 05 August 2004
School cleaners will bring to an end the first week of rolling stoppages with a rally outside Bob Carr's electorate office in Maroubra tomorrow morning.
School cleaner stoppage and rallyEastern Suburbs school cleaners will join the state-wide rolling stoppages campaign on Friday (August 6) by mounting early morning information pickets at local schools. This week more than 1000 schools across the state have been hit by the 24 hour rolling strikes - the rolling stoppages will continue throughout next week. " We want to inform the community and teachers of Bob Carr's campaign to attack the jobs of nearly 7000 cleaners," Jim Lloyd, NSW LHMU Cleaners Union President, said. " Union members will be warning parents and teachers that once the school cleaners jobs are attacked parents will be asked to turn up and volunteer to clean classrooms and playgrounds. " Bob Carr doesn't just want your taxes to help his Budget, he now wants parents and teachers to volunteer their labour to help stretch the State Budget." School cleaners from around 100 sites in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs will take part in the morning pickets and afterwards rally outside the electorate office of their local State MP, Premier Carr, 806 Anzac Parade, Maroubra. The LHMU proudly represents around 130,000 hard working women and men throughout Australia For more info:Jim Lloyd, NSW LHMU Cleaners Union State President, 8204 7204 or 0427 214 778
