NSW LHMU cleaners from across the state - along with their supporters - will take part in a huge Sydney protest rally, starting from the Archibald Fountain, Hyde Park North, at midday on Wednesday.
LHMU members will rally to demand Bob Carr deliver on his promises of job security for nearly 7000 cleaners.
" We expect to see a massive wave of union members walking down Macquarie St on Wednesday," Annie Owens, LHMU Cleaners Union State Secretary, said.
Buses from country towns
Buses from several major regional centres will be leaving early on Wednesday morning to bring people to the Sydney rally.
Members should call 1800 021 901( toll free) for daily updates and bus information.
Get regular updates
To get regular updates about the campaign visit our special NSW cleaners campaign site.
On this site you can read about:
- What was said in the NSW Parliament this week about the cleaners' dispute;
- How Alan Jones, radio star, has revealed that cleaning contractors want to sack workers and not pay any redundancy;
- That around 1000 Australians have sent off protest e-mails to Premier Carr and his Ministers;
- That hundreds of American cleaners are backing our campaign and sending protests to BOTH the Australian Ambassador to Washington and to Premier Carr.
Keeping the media on side
The media is backing our campaign for job justice for low-wage workers.
That's only because of the brilliant activism and on-the-ground organising by LHMU Cleaners Union members who keep pestering their local papers, Sydney papers and radio stars with letters and telephone calls.
If you've got a great human interest story about LHMU cleaners, which you think we should be promoting to the media, contact NSW LHMU President, Jim Lloyd and give him all the important details.
Tell them about our heroes
Let's tell the media about our community heroes - our happy stories and our sad stories as hard-working loyal cleaners at schools, TAFEs, in MPs offices, at police stations and a wide variety of other NSW government sites.
