Uni VC meets low-waged cleanersDate: 06 September 2004
University of Tasmania cleaners will meet tomorrow afternoon with the Vice-Chancellor Prof Daryl LeGrew to discuss their campaign to protect their jobs and livelihoods. " LHMU cleaners are pleased that they will have an opportunity to speak directly with the Vice-Chancellor about their campaign for job justice," Leanne McDougall, LHMU Tasmania Organiser, said today. The LHMU Cleanders Union will take a delegation of university cleaners to Professor LeGrew's office for a meeting scheduled for 3pm. " Nearly 200 people from across Tasmnaia have sent off e-mails to the Vice-Chancellor to say they are concerned at the way an important state institution is treating low-wage workers. " Our community is sensitive to the way all sections of our society are treated. " We are grateful for this support and we hope the Vice-Chancellor will understand the need to respect the right of all Tasmanians to a secure jobs and a decent pay packet." The LHMU proudly represents around 130,000 hard working women and men throughout Australia
