WA nursing home owners outdo ScroogeDate: 22 December 2004
Moran and Little Sisters of the Poor will be giving their employees working in nursing homes in WA a surprise present this Christmas - no public holidays for the Christmas period. Throughout the rest of the country, employees will take Monday 27, Tuesday 28 December and Monday 3 January off as public holidays, in lieu of Christmas, Boxing and New Years' Day. Not so if you are working at Moran or Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Homes in Western Australia.
Robbing nursing home workers of public holidays" The rest of the country will either be taking a four day break or being paid decent penalties if they have to work," Sue Lines,LHMU WA Assistant Secretary, said." These organisations are robbing their nursing home employees of three public holidays."
No compensation for having no time with the family over XmasLHMU member Eddie Forrester, who works at Greenmount Gardens in Perth, a nursing home run by Moran, is rostered to work on the Monday after Christmas." All my friends and family have the day off. I am receiving no compensation for working on a day when everyone else is relaxing. I feel angry and disappointed at the company's attitude," Eddie Forrester said.
Don't be so mean Mr Moran and Little Sisters of the Poor" We are calling on Moran and Little Sisters of the Poor not to be so mean," Sue Lines said." It's Christmas. Pay your employees the holidays they deserve."
