Support SA hospital security workersDate: 16 February 2005
South Australian security officers, who work in the public health sector, daily face increasing incidents of violence, and new security issues:but they are among the lowest paid workers in our public hospital and health system. " These security officers, who work at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Women's and Children's Hospital and Noarlunga Health Service, are responsible for spotting dangers and ensuring our safety when we visit our hospitals," Mark Butler, LHMU State Secretary said.
Act Now - send a protest e-mail
Daily acts of violence in our hospitals" LHMU members working in hospital security are confronted daily with verbal attacks, drug and alcohol affected patients, syringes, knives, and a variety of other weapons." Over the last few years, unfortunately, the number of reported incidents of violence has jumped exponentially," Mark Butler said.
One hundred private contract security hospital workers" The 100 private contract security officers, who perform the same duties as state government employees, receive $1.79 less per hour for this work," Mark Butler, SA LHMU Secretary said." Contract security officers are now in dispute over wage parity with the State Government with a range of work bans on in the public health sector to achieve wages parity with their work mates."
Take a few seconds to protestShow your support - tell Jim Birch - the top Health bureaucrat - you think it is a disgrace that these contract workers don't get the same rates of pay as their directly employed work mates. Send a protest e-mail NOW !
