PSA - NO to Forests corporatisationDate: 18 February 2005
The NSW Public Service Association has rejected any notion of corporatising Forests NSW The PSA represents the majority of Forests NSW staff. PSA Assistant General Secretary, Shane O'Brien said the union's position was determined after consultation with senior Forests NSW delegates and PSA Executive members. "The overwhelming view is this is the first step towards privatisation> It will cost jobs in regional communities and compromise the sustainability of our forest industries into the future. Mr O'Brien said. The PSA was critical of the Governments failure to provide any detail of its proposals. "The Premier has said he wants to corporatise but after more than twelve months of procrastination the Government haven't put forward any concrete plan. "This is an ideological decision by the Government that will hurt rural and regional NSW and endanger a scarce resource", Mr O'Brien said. Mr O'Brien said the Public Service Association would fight against any corporatisation plan. "Our members do a great job in managing and protecting our forests and we will fight for their jobs and their communities", he said. "We will consider any action our members feel will help win the fight. Industrial action, community action, whatever it takes", Mr O'Brien said.
