Weight Watchers win new pay plan

Date: 02 June 2005

An LHMU campaign for Weight Watchers Leaders has won a breakthrough offer which will more than double the pay of hundreds of dedicated Weight Watchers staff.

" Weight Watchers is right now sending out an offer of new employment conditions to all Leaders," NSW LHMU President, Jim Lloyd said today.

Not final offer

"Union members believe this offer will not be the final outcome for our pay campaign. And we are concerned that there are some risks to the new deal.

" However this new offer from Weight Watchers should be applauded," Megan Winch, a key Weight Watchers leader said today.

Real respect won

" It is to the company's credit that they have listened and responded in what can only be described as a fair and responsible manner.

" It means we will now have real respect - being paid in line with a new Federal award," Megan Winch said.

Jim Lloyd also praised the giant steps the company has made. :" This multinational has come a long way from the point where they tried to deny their staff were actually workers, and a few short months ago they refused to meet with their workforce and the union.

" More than a third of Weight Watcher Leaders in the Sydney metropolitan area have now joined the LHMU.

" Union members have won the current offer through an extensive campaign of lobbying, legal support, media interviews, meeting with other Weight Watcher Leaders and actions at seminars," Jim Lloyd said.

Megan Winch said: " The more Leaders who are members of the union the stronger will be the case for us to win even better Award conditions."

Key benefits

Some of the key benefits of the new deal:

· Leaders receive a minimum of $44.70 for each meeting;

· Leaders receive $8.94 each week for meeting preparation;
