Yesterday's meeting of working people in Wollongong constituted the largest protest ever held in the city with the overall South Coast tally standing at over 15,000 for the national day of community protest. South Coast Labour Council Secretary, Arthur Rorris said, "This was a historic day for working people in the Illawarra and South Coast" "A community movement is forming larger than any other experienced in our region" "Most pleasing was the sheer determination and commitment of our community to continue and intensify the campaign for the next two years." "Howard has committed himself to ensuring that the sky won't fall in with his radical workplace agenda and the working families of the Illawarra have committed themselves to making sure that his Government does."
