Fosters wants to flatten beerworkers

Queensland brewery workers fight

Union members rallied outside Foster's Australia's marketing office in Fortitude Valley Queensland last week -angered at management's attempts to use the Howard Governments unfair and extreme industrial relations laws to impose a non-union agreement at the Yatala site.

Global beer brand won't talk to union

Fosters, an iconic Australian beer company with a global brand presence, is flatly refusing workers a union collective agreement - despite management being aware that a union agreement is the overwhelming choice of the Yatala workforce.

Employees are angered at Foster's attempts to use the Howard Governments unfair and extreme industrial relations laws to impose a non-union agreement at the Yatala site.

Bosses want to exclude unions

Members of the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU), Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) and Electrical Trades Union (ETU) are angered at management insisting that the agreement exclude their unions.

Faran Neven has worked at the Yatala brewery for about 15 years and has been a member of the LHMU for 13 years.

"We just want to be allowed the opportunity to negotiate a union collective agreement that's fair for everyone", Faran Neven said.

Disgruntled members stood united with their union representatives outside Foster's Australia's office highlighting their fight for a union collective agreement that protects their interests into the future.

At a meeting held outside the main gates of the Foster's brewery at Yatala the workforce vote called for:

- A union collective agreement;delegates and officials to negotiate a union collective agreement;

- Foster's management to address the union log of claims;

- constant review of negotiations as needed.

Forsters workers want their choice respected

Disgruntled union members are united and will continue to stand together until their choice for a union collective agreement is delivered.

"The vast majority of Yatala brewery employees want their wages and conditions set by a union collective agreement. That's the choice they've made.

Only bosses get to choose under Howard work laws

" Yet Foster's is ignoring their choice", LHMU Queensland Secretary Ron Monaghan said.

"So much for John Howard's Work Choices, only bosses get to choose under Howard's IR laws", Mr Monaghan said.
