Walsh set to replace Daley, Vic LHMUDate: 27 August 2007
Thirty-six year-old Jess Walsh will soon replace Brian Daley as secretary of the LHMU Victoria branch. Daley is retiring after 13 years at the helm. Walsh's candidacy has been unanimously endorsed by branch officers and is expected to be endorsed by the union's governing council in October.
Tributes to Daley leadershipWalsh paid tribute to Daley's leadership, whom she credits with ushering in a new style of unionism focussed on building member-driven campaigns for change.Walsh said Daley will leave the Victorian branch in a strong position to grow and win change for its diverse membership.
Walsh has led ground-breaking Victorian cleaners campaignWalsh has been an Assistant Secretary of the Victorian branch since 2005.Walsh has also been the Victorian director of the LHMU's successful Clean Start: Fair Deal for Cleaners campaign. This innovative campaign has given a voice to low-paid, largely migrant contract cleaners. It has also won industry and community support for its drive to end poverty wages and unfair working conditions in cleaning.

Brian Daley continues as National LHMU PresidentDaley will further his work representing union members in the superannuation industry, as part of his ongoing role as National President of the LHMU.The LHMU represents workers from various industries, including ambulances, cleaning, childcare, hospitality, manufacturing and security.
