John Howard's betrayal of AustraliaDate: 04 September 2007
Three distinguished academics will probe the details of how Australia's national interests have been systematically undermined by the Prime Minister, John Howard, in a pre-APEC forum hosted by the Evatt Foundation in Sydney on Thursday. In the second of the Evatt Foundation's pre-APEC public events, Linda Weiss, Professor of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney, John Mathews, Professor of Strategic Management in the Graduate School of Management at Macquarie University, and Elizabeth Thurbon, Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences and International Studies at the UNSW, will speak on the most arresting political story of the past decade: the Howard Government's betrayal of Australia. Following on Paul Keating's presentation of an independent vision of Australian foreign policy in the Evatt Foundation's first pre-APEC event, this forum directly critiques the Howard Government's policy of tying its political fortunes to its great and powerful friend. This is a scholarly exposure of the myth of the Howard Government's security credentials by the authors of the new book National Insecurity: The Howard Government's Betrayal of Australia (Allen & Unwin, 2007). Details: Linda Weiss, John Mathews & Elizabeth Thurbon
