CEPU talks to save 800 jobs

Date: 18 September 2008

The Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) today said it will meet with Telstra management on Monday 22 September 2008 in order to save up to 800 jobs.

"The focus of the union is to save as many jobs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane," CEPU National President Ed Husic said today.

"We're looking for these workers to be redeployed into other areas of the organisation.
Telstra is currently bidding for one of the largest telecommunications infrastructure projects in the country, the multi billion dollar National Broadband Network.

"We should look to find any way we can to retain skills and commitment with Telstra as it gears up to potentially rollout this network," he said.
