Are you on Twitter?

Date: 21 October 2009

Are you one of the many AWU members now using Twitter to stay in touch with friends and family - and to keep up with breaking news?

New way to keep up with what's happening at the AWU

If you are a Twitter user, you can now follow the AWU's Tweets at a site called - AWUnion

The AWU was the first union in Australia to have a Facebook application - now we want to open up this new way of communicating to members, supporters - and people thinking of joining a union.

What is this Twitter thing?

Not sure what this Twitter thing is all about?

Here's a short YouTube video that explains it.

And if you're interested in signing up (it's free), here's LabourStart's quick guide on how to do set up a Twitter account.

How do we best use Twitter for AWU members?

Twitter is still in its early stages in Australia - so we want to explore, with your support, how best we use our new Twitter site.

We want to hear from you - and we want to tell you what the union is doing - both our leaders, and our members in different workplaces across the country.

Choose how to get Twitter messages

The real power of Twitter is that you can choose how you want to receive Twitter messages, where it's most convenient for you.

That can be through your own Twitter page on the web, or it can be as text messages to your mobile phone, or via the Instant Messager of your choice, or through an RSS news feeds.
