Pay rise: Spotless school cleanersDate: 14 December 2009
After many months of negotiations, LHMU has finalised an Enterprise Agreement with Spotless in school cleaning. This agreement brings Spotless school cleaners in line with other school cleaners across NSW. This means a pay increase of 3.5% on 1 February 2010, and then another 3.5% increase in February 2011. Allowances will get a big increase to make up for the fact that there have been no increases for the last few years. They will also increase by 3.5% in February 2011. Spotless school cleaner Dann Kaempff said a pay rise would be good. "The new agreement sounds good and an increase in the allowances is good too," he said. "Especially for those who have to travel to do their split shifts - it's an expensive operation for them." All cleaners' current terms and conditions have been protected in the agreement. It is now time for cleaners to have a say! School cleaners will receive a copy of the agreement and a ballot paper in the next few days. The ballot closes just before Christmas. School cleaners should attend the information session on Thursday, 17 December at 11am. It will be held at Room 3 Level 2, Next Generation, 504A Victoria Rd Ryde. Need more information? Spotless wins Broadlex contractMeanwhile, the Schools Contracts Control Board has awarded Spotless the interim contract for the former Broadlex sites. This will affect school cleaners in the Liverpool/Fairfield, Sutherland St George and Bankstown/Granville areas. The interim contract will run from 1 February 2010 to 30 June 2011.LHMU met with Spotless immediately and asked management about their implementation plans. Spotless will be making offers of employment to all current cleaners in these packages. School cleaners' jobs and total hours are guaranteed under the contract. Induction meetings will be held as quickly as possible so school cleaners can get to know the way Spotless operate. The company has ordered brand new equipment for all schools in these package areas. LHMU requested Spotless come and meet the ROCs and it has agreed to work with LHMU members throughout the year. The Department of Education has also set up a steering committee to oversee the trial. School cleaners' feedback into the trial is vital! So, make sure you get involved with your local ROC to have your say! If you have questions contact the Member Service Centre on 1800 805 027.
