Public sector unions pledge to HaitiDate: 26 January 2010
The CPSU, Australia's major Public Service Trade Union, today announced that it would, start the contributions to the Public Services fund for the Haiti Aid Appeal, with a $40 thousand donation to the victims of the disasterous earthquake, David Carey,the Secretary of the State Public Services Group in the 185,000 strong CPSU, said today "We are shocked and deeply saddened by this calamity that has occurred to our brothers and sisters in Haiti." "Words cannot express our deep anguish at the horror our union colleagues and the people of Haiti are experiencing." "We especially feel for our brothers and sisters in the Public Services. They are now struggling to save lives, heal the injured, repair vital services for the people of Haiti, amidst their own personal trauma." Mr Carey said - "We know that our contribution is small in the scheme of things. However we hope it will be a token that encourages all our Public Service Union members to dig deep and show the strength of solidarity from Public Sector union members across the world."
