CPSU's new leader Nadine FloodDate: 18 March 2010
The Community and Public Sector Union today endorsed Nadine Flood as its new national secretary to represent the interests of the nation's 140,000 federal public sector workers. The Community and Public Sector Union today endorsed Nadine Flood as its new national secretary to represent the interests of the nation's 140,000 federal public sector workers. Addressing the CPSU Governing Council, Ms Flood said her top priority as national secretary would be creating a single set of conditions for all public sector workers. "Under the former Howard Government we saw government departments broken down into single business units, making it harder to share information and build meaningful public sector careers. "The result today is a fragmented public service which does a very good job despite these limitations, but one that could do so much better." Ms Flood was bought up in a public service household and first worked for the CPSU as an organiser in 1995, representing members in across government agencies and Telstra. Ms Flood also paid tribute to her predecessor, Stephen Jones, who is leaving to contest the federal seat of Throsby. "Stephen's energy and vision have contributed much to our sense of what sort of union we will be in the 21st century," she said. For media comment:
